Printing on HP8100 from E450 Solaris 8

2007-12-25 11:18:00

Hi,

This is a partial summary insofar as the problem isn't fixed and while some

of the solutions

offered ought to work they don't seem to behave as expected. The bulk of

respondents suggested

downloading the Jetadmin software from HP which I've done though I note it

doesn't list Solaris 8 as a supported option. I've yet to install it since I

think care is required and I want to check the docs very carefully. Another

fix along the lines of

# lpadmin -p printer1 -s printer1!text

had some effect but not the one desired. Now the jobs just vanish into the

ether.

We tried using the postscript filter found in ..../lp/models/hpnpl but that

results in just a banner page. The ps output it generates looks valid so I'm

starting to look harder at the printer itself which also has the curious

feature of doing a reset whenever we try to print anything off SUNsolve

website.

I'll post a second summary when I have a working solution.

Cheers

Joe

Subject: Printing on HP8100 from E450 Solaris 8

Hi All,

Couldn't find this one in this list's FAQ though I know it's in one

somewhere. Got the above hardware. Need to get rid of the stepping

on text output. Can someone tell me how to configure the standard Solaris

print system to do this please?

My current config file reads as follows:

Banner: optional

Content types: postscript,simple

Device: /dev/null

Interface: /usr/lib/lp/model/hpnpl/net_ljx000

Printer type: hplaser

Modules:

Options: protocol=tcp,dest=hp8100:9100

I know the usual fix with BSD printing is to add rp=text:\ to the printcap

file. What am I missing here?

Cheers

Joe
