NIS password

I am running NIS on Solaris 7 with the latest patches. I am using both passwd
and shadow files with my NIS implementation. The passwords are kept in he
shadow file and both passwd and shadow are pushed out via a make cmd. The
weird thing is that when I do a ypcat -k on passwd.byname as a regular user I
can see the actual encrypted password in the output. What gives?
