Most responses to changing a host ID pointed me to a very useful FAQ:

I followed the instructions in this FAQ and was able to change my Host ID
in no time at all. Very easy to do! Thanks to everyone who replied!

Other suggestions of interest:
1) Call Sun and order a custom chip with any Host ID you want for about
$20.
2) If the two systems are the same, take the IDPROM chip from the old, dead
system and put it in the new system.
3) Get new license strings to match the host ID of the new system.
