automountd retrying

Hello:

A Solaris 9 server starts recording automountd related notice on
/etc/adm/messages:

Autofs: [ID 558380 kern.notice] automountd ok.

Autofs: [ID 593912 kern.notice] automountd not running, retrying

The same pair notices keep showing up every minute.

The /etc/auto_master file is the default one, never being changed:

+auto_master

/net -hosts -nosuid,nobrowse

/home auto_home -nobrowse

/xfn -xfn

The command "# ls -al /xfn" hangs.

This Solaris 9 is a http server (Apache).
