tftp quits after 16 MB

I'm trying to download a 90 MB file via tftp.
It quits always arround 16 MB with "Timed out".
The Server is running Sol 7. I have eliminated
the network in between and used the tftp client
from SUN connecting to localhost:
#tftp localhost
tftp>bin
tftp>get bigfile
Transfer timed out.
tftp>quit
#ls -l bigfile
-rw-r--r-- 1 ohopp iramit 16777216 Aug 24 18:57 bigfile
is always around 16 MB (plus/minus a few kb)
I have dropped the tftpd from SUN and took the GNU one.
Restarted inetd and tried again - but the same.
After 16 MB it quits...
