8mm Exabyte problem.

I have a question regarding 8mm tape drives:

We have a Sun Ultra 1 (node X), with an EXB-8505 drive attached. When we try to read a tape written on an IBM-8505 (SEG-Y format), the read fails. However, we have another Ultra 1 (node Y), with an EXB-8500 which is able to read the tape.

Moving the EXB-8500 to X still results in a read failure. The st.conf is exactly the same on each machine as I've copied it from Y to X.

We believe the SCSI card is OK because we can tar to (and from) both tape drives on X.

Both machines are running Solaris 2.6 and Y has only 5 patches not appearing on X:

105633-46: openwindows 3.6 Xsun patch

Any ideas will be greatly appreciated. I will summerise.
