NIS slave updation problem

We are running an environment in which we have a NIS master server
and a slave server both Solaris boxes
I am facing a problem in which whenever any updation takes place
in the NIS maps of master the same is not getting broadcasted to
the slave even after running the make.Please can somebody give me
a solution for the same so that if master is down the slave can
takeover without any downtime.
