No help from the net, but here is the summary of what I figured out.

I had used large IDE drives on U10s without problem when using Solaris 8 so
I thought I would boot into Solaris 8 from a CD and format/partition the
drive there and then newfs it on Solaris 2.6. Solaris 8 didn't think the
drive was any bigger (2G), so in "format" I specified the parameters of
the drive by hand and Solaris 8 said.. "Cool... 8Gig..". At that point I
booted into 2.6 and got into format to check the partitions. Format said
the drive had a bad label. That is to say that the OS had it pegged at the
correct size but the drive itself insisted that it was only 2G. During
this mess I had noticed an "extra" jumper on the drive.. Pulled that
jumper off, booted back into 2.6, and everything was ok. Really odd. So
that is more of a "here is what I mucked through" than a Summary.
