NIS, NIS+ or LDAP

2007-12-25 0:28:00

Our UNIX environment is growing rapidly and I need to implement some
kind of information service. I was planning to use NIS but I am not
really comfortable with the access to the encrypted passwords. I have
tried to implement LDAP using both Sun's LDAP ( previously the iPlanet
LDAP server I believe ) and OpenLDAP with no success. I have heard
stories about NIS+ that basically say I should avoid it for reasons I
can't remember at this point.

Basically I would like to hear some suggestions from those who have been
down this route. So if you have any opinions on which is better I would
like to hear them. Also if you are using LDAP and prefer it ... please
let me know which version of LDAP you are using.

Thanks in advance for your time and suggestions,
