Kerberos/SEAM - cant do kadmin

I have gotten SEAM installed on my box Sol9/v210

When I tried to do kadmin -p .. got a bunch of funky errors:
Preauthentication failed blah blah blah....

so... I when in kadmin.local... took out the Preauthentication Required
flag...

now when I try I get:

GSS-API (or Kerberos) error while initializing kadmin interface

but in the krb5kdc log I see the AS_REQ go through fine...

theres nothing special in the kadmin.log

as an aside, kinit works, and klist shows the ticket

....

HELP!!!! please...

I have been battling Kerberos/SEAM for about a month, and I am convinced it
isnt supposed to be this difficult.
