VLAN tagging

Hello managers,

I'm having some trouble configuring VLAN tagging on a gige interface on a
420R running Solaris 8. According to the sparse documentation I can find,
it's as simple as:

machine$ ifconfig ce1817000 plumb up

if i'm using vlan 1817, that is.

The error I get, regardless of which vlan id I use, is:

machine$ sudo ifconfig ce1817000 plumb up
ifconfig: plumb: ce1817000: Bad file number

I'm stumped, as I can't find any information about VLAN tagging, other
than the very basic docs available from Sun. If anyone has any
information, please let me know. I will post a summary of any and all
information I receive.
