Full duplex/half duplex problem on Sun E450/Cisco Catalyst 6509?

My server E450 was having problem booting up. It hang
at boot up with the error message:

My server is a E450 running Solaris 2.6 with all the
recommended/y2k patches. It is connected to the CISCO
Catalyst 6509. The ports were set at 100 MB full
duplex. I tried to force the on board hme0 (main
interface) to be 100 Mb full and the 2 quad cards
(qfe) to be 100 Mb full in /etc/system:

set hme:hme_adv_autoneg_cap=0
set hme:hme_adv_100T4_cap=0
set hme:hme_adv_100fdx_cap=1
set hme:hme_adv_100hdx_cap=0
set hme:hme_adv_10fdx_cap=0
set hme:hme_adv_10hdx_cap=0
#
set qfe:qfe_adv_autoneg_cap=0
set qfe:qfe_adv_100T4_cap=0
set qfe:qfe_adv_100fdx_cap=1
set qfe:qfe_adv_100hdx_cap=0
set qfe:qfe_adv_10fdx_cap=0
set qfe:qfe_adv_10hdx_cap=0

and reboot with a -r option (reconfig'ed)

but when the server came up, it failed to bind to
the NIS server. In addition, "dmesg" still shows that
all the interfaces (hme0/qfe) are still at 100MB half
duplex.

This server is on a server subnet which is 198.211.246
with netmask of 255.255.255.0 and have interfaces to
the users subnets (10.x.x.x) via 8 qfe's with subnet
mask of 255.255.240.0. The Cisco switch is a Catalyst
6509 running IOS 12.1

Are there problems with Quad cards running at 100MB
full duplex? Is there speed mismatch problem with Sun
2.6 (E450) and Cisco Catalyst 6509? Could the problem
be the mixing of subnet masks on 1 server?

Thanks for any suggestions. I will summarize.
