Partially wiped etc

2007-12-25 1:39:00

OS: Solaris 5.8 02/02
Machine: E250

Today, while cleaning up some backup files and other cruft from a system,
making it ready for production, I accidently wiped out part of /etc.

The system would not boot (obvisouly). /etc/passwd and /etc/shadow aare
still in place. Looks like I stopped it around the "i"s /etc/group is
missing.

I attempted to "upgrade the system" with the same CD I installed with
hoping this would cure the problem and replace any missing files.
This did not work, although it did complete sucessfully.

I am now getting the error:

Cannot assemble drivers for root pci at 1f,4000/scsi at 3/disk at 0,0:a

followed by a cannot mount root on pci at 1f,4000/scsi at 3/disk at 0,0:a

I am pretty sure I am down to just one or two bad files, but which ones?

Any ideas or usefull ssuggestions? I would prefer not to have to wipe the
box and re-install the OS.
