How to make JNIs go faster

How do I "tune" the JNI HBAs for better throughput? This is on a SAN using
Inrange FC9000 switches and HDS 9960 disk.
The only change I made to the default config is to put the following in
/etc/system (and it might be wrong)
set sd:sd_io_time=0x3c
set sd:sd_max_throttle=16
set maxphys=8388608
I'm obtaining about 20 MB/sec, calculated by doing
timex mkfile 1g file1
