backup issues

thanks to all who replied to my question.

The summary goes like this :

There is no potential problem in backing up a file system from multi-user

state and while it is mounted. But care is to be taken that the system is

not heavily active while you are taking the backup and also if any database

applications (like oracle) are used, it is preferred to unmount the file

system and take the backup.
