[Solaris 7] TAR -xvf /dev/rmt/0 error for /dev/fd/0

Guys,
I am trying to restore a TAR archive with the command
below, and it fails with tape read error on /dev/fd/1
when i am trying to dump the content into another
directory.
/rec_dir_comp_root/ # tar -xvf /dev/rmt/
extracts few files, and fails at /dev/fd/0 with
I restoring complete system backup in another
directory.
Second Question.
Tape1: Multiple archive on single Tape (UFSDUMP, tar,
VFSDUMP).
Can i burn copies of this tape directly using DD, and
can anyone email me the exact command context.
Assuming my system has two tape drive already
installed.
