passwd command for NIS+ does not work after upgrading from Solari s 8 to Solaris 9

I just upgraded from 8 to 9, and now NIS+ does not work.

I create users, and I can see them in the tables. The cred.org_dir tables
have the local and des credentials for the user. The passwd.org_dir has the
user information.

Then, when I try to create a password for the user I get the follwoing
error:
passwd: user unknown: johnsmith

What is unusual is that I can still change passwords for all the old account
that were already in the table!!

Any ideas?
