without having the "old" files overwritten.
The "trick" is to use /dev/nrst# instead of /dev/rst#, which is explained
in the manual page for st [thanks arne]
You still get the message "Tape Rewinding", which can be ignored. The verify
option of dump is said to work as intended with the non-rewinding device.
