MAKE VERY CERTAIN, THAT YOU LOAD PATCH 102264-02
ON ALL OF YOUR SUNOS 4.1.4 SYSTEMS
NOTE: if you have 4.1.3U1 systems you will need to upgrade
them to 4.1.4
Also you will need to change your kernel maxusers value to at least
80
On my server I have maxusers set to 96
My server has 327 meg of swap, a Ross accelerator board
and is a Axil 320 system with a 166 meg processor in it.
It also has a 20 GIG raid system attached to it and is
running fast wide scsi. Believe me, you will need it,
all of it.
The patch 102264-02 is a kernel patch, if it is NOT loaded
first, the system will crash. When Clear case first came out here
to load their software, they did not load this patch and the
system crashed, and took out the /usr partition, it took some
time to recover.

The operative word here is BIG!
We have Axil systems with 32 meg of main memory and
80 meg of swap, and they are all running out of resources.
I will have to upgrade all of our systems to at least
64 meg of main memory, and 160 meg of swap
Plan on at least a 2 gig drive per system, we currently have
one gig drives and they are not enough.

Make sure that you load the software LOCAL to each system
DO NOT LINK IT!, unless you have a 100megabit ethernet system
in place.
If you link it, it will tax your network.
To load the software local requires 56 meg of disk space
on each system.

I haven't run into any as yet.

None that I have come across as yet.

Depends on the setup. I would say startup takes some time, but afterwards
admin time is minimal.

Depends on the amount of code and exactly how you set it up. We had 4 IBM
AIX machines, and 1 Sparc 20 (Solaris) as our servers. The client setup
can be as small as 1 meg.

Depending on the amount of clients setup and how often they need to access
the server. It can cause quite a load on your network.

Definitely. This part can get fairly hairy. And is very much involved with
your next question.

I would recommend setting up mirroring. In order to backup a VOB to tape,
you will need to shutdown clearcase on that server first.
This was all about 7 months ago. The company I'm at now is about to
jump into ClearCase also, so I'll be working these same issues again.

probably find out.

Those are all good questions and I wish I had the answers! Anyway we are
implementing Clearcase here. We have approximately 300 developers that we are
transitioning. We created a designated clearcase administrator who is is
responsible for all clearcase problems. We also have setup special view and
vob servers. We have not yet measured increases in network traffic. There are
some issues with backups, but we have not attempted to tackle that problem yet.
I believe there is some information on the atria web page (www.pureatria.com)
about backups.
