DLT7000 with hardware failure

I have a problem with a DLT7000 connected to an E240R. After
unfortunately having a severed tape inserted, a hardware failure occured.
Since I can't see nor imagine what could have broken due to this, I
wonder if anyone has experience of fixing such a drive instead of
replacing it.
The symptoms are as such:
Power on: Tape in use-light on, searching sounds;
crunching sounds; left side blinking; repeat from start.
It is also impossible to insert any tapes, they don't 'stick' in the
bottom.
Excuse the very non-technical jargon, I'm not a hardware guy by birth.
Any opinions or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
