UPDATE: SCSI Unexpected Phase = 2

2007-12-24 19:41:00

Hi,

Sorry, but I forgot to mention that previously, the disk worked fine under Sol7 and Sol8 on the same machine. The disk was not a system disk, it was simply a data disk. newfs and mount all worked on it. But when we used the disk to install the actual OS on it, it failed.

The disk is a Compaq 18GB Wide-Ultra SCSI-3 (from WesternDigital model # WDE18300-6029B0). It plugs direcly into the motherboard (on-board scsi controller), so no cables are used. I believe its LVM, so it has no separate power connection and there is no need to set the scsi id separately (i think).

Hi Experts,

Machine: Ultra 2 Creator 3D
CPU: (1) 400Mhz module
Mem: (4) 128mb = 512MB
Disk: Compaq 18GB Wide-Ultra SCSI-3

When we installed Sol8 on the box and then the box automatically reboots
(after install) we got the following error msg:
SCSI Unexpected Phase = 2
And it can't boot.

We have replaced the drive with the same model from Compaq, but get the
same error. So we are guessing, the motherboard is bad. Has anyone seen this
error before? Btw, we get the same error message when we do a probe-scsi
at the ok prompt.
