scripting disk labeling

Currently I have a perl script to create and map a large number of
luns to a 2 node cluster. I would like to automate labeling the luns
on the cluster host in order to quickly and automatically create a
test environment.
Should this work?
echo "lab" >cmdfile
format -f cmdfile -d diskname
