Sun's sendmail & open relay & forging

We are running a v440 with solaris 9 that has the Sun's version of
sendmail. I know under Freebsd ..the versions of sendmail ..it doesnt
allow relaying of type unless you create a relay-domains file and list the
networks or domains you want to relay for.

Is this the same for Sun's version of sendmail ?

Also could i just go get the newest version of sendmail from sendmail.org
and install it using the typical sendmail installation method ?
