access to machine in single user mode

he can manage to get it into single user mode. Is there any way at all to
telnet into the box while in single user mode? I've tried firing up S69inet
and S72inetsvc and am able to get a connection to the box but no login
prompt. What am I missing? I tested this on my workstation and am able to
see the connection with netstat, but still need to get a login.
