Install Solaris 9 X86 Via Serial Port?

i'm attempting to install Solaris 9 X86 via the serial port by adding the
following lines to /solaris/bootenv.rc on the boot floppy (created from the
image file on the Software CD #2):
setprop output-device com1
setprop input-device com1
(I made these changes to the bootenv.rc file on a Linux box)
On boot it says:
Solaris boot sector, version 1
Solaris mdb exec load error
Does anyone have experience doing an install via serial port like this,
that can offer any suggestions?
