Read only / filesystem

Due to errors in the /etc/vfstab file the root file system is mounted read
only. Usually I would boot from CDROM mount the file system on /mnt or
somewhere edit the file and bingo, but this system does not have one.

Any ideas how I can edit the /etc/vfstab file to fix the problems ??
