Upgrade problems from 2.6 to 2.7

I am having considerable difficulties upgrading an E250 from 2.6 to 2.7.
Upon booting from CD-ROM, answering the usual questions and selecting
"upgrade" (as opposed to "initial install") I am presented with the
following error message:
The Solaris Version (Solaris 2.6) on slice c0t0d0s0 cannot be
upgraded.
A file system listed in the file system table (vfstab) could not
be mounted.
A few words regarding the situation:
- I have consulted sunsolve and the only reference that I can find that is
even close is article 4240577 which does not address the problem.
- DiskSuite 4.2 is installed on the machine but c0t0d0s0 ("/") and c0t0d0s1
("/var") have been unmirrored and this is reflected in the vfstab on
c0t0d0s0.
Any ideas?
