ssh badatom problems

After upgrading from openssh 3.7p3 to 3.8p1 on Solaris 9, I'm having
problems running some Xapps like xemacs, i.e. errors like:
xemacs: X Error of failed request: BadAtom (invalid Atom parameter)
Major opcode of failed request: 20 (X_GetProperty)
Atom id in failed request: 0x8c
Serial number of failed request: 23
Current serial number in output stream: 23
Has anyone have this problem before? http://www.openssh.org/faq.html#3.13

helps on the client side, but I'd like to know if there's a permanent way
around this.
