Clear zombie without reboot (urgent)

I am running Solaris 8 on a production
box and the / is at critical 98%. On checking I found
unusual space usage by /var/tmp , I also detected
found a few zombie processes.
How may i clear up the defunct processes without
requiring a reboot. In Solaris 9 i am aware of the
preap command is there an option to do that in version
8.
