nscd using a whole cpu
2007-12-24 22:08:00
we installed patches this weekend and all seems well
except for nscd (name service caching daemon) seems to
be looping, using an entire cpu. it will stop with
init.d/nscd stop but when you start it again it
exhibits same behaviour. it's happenning on about
half of the machines patched, but not all and most of
these have the same config to our knowledge.
enabling debug shows:
getpw_reaper: 0 entries in cache
getpw_reaper: reaped 0 entries
and truss shows tons of time() calls. we are in a
nisplus environment. there are no other problems we
know of (people can log in, everything is running to
our knowledge).
any ideas? thanks, i will sumamrise.
