Severe problems with lpd

2007-12-25 8:30:00

Hi Managers,

here is my original posting:

I have a problem with a lpd which core dumps (segmentation violation),

if I want to print something on our printer 'rzlas-ps'.

The dbx output looks as follows

% dbx /usr/lib/lpd

warning: no symbols

program terminated by signal SEGV (no mapping at the fault address)

(dbx) list

warning: no current function.

(dbx) where

(dbx) quit

The syslogd didn't catch any error-messages. Even starting lpd with -L didn't

produce any output in the logfile.

The printcap-file is attached to this mail.

The Sun is an IPX with 4.1.3 and 32 MB.

------------

I received five responses and the ultimate solution from Badri Pillai was

to erase the empty lines in the printcap file, to remove all lock files and

to remove /dev/printer. The next step is to restart the lpd. After all it works fine.

Thanks to all who respond.
