gnome color mappings

Does anyone know who to manipulate the color mappings? I'm trying to output
the display from another server and not all of the colors are being mapped
which gives me a near-blank gui. I get a few of the following messages:
Warning: Cannot allocate colormap entry for "#efed00"
The normal CDE desktop does output the display properly.
