Netra-T1 105 console: output, no input

I connected the LOM-A port via straight UTP cable to Serial port of PC,
powered on the machine and get its POST messages and startup attempts on
the screen of the PC (using either HyperTerminal or TeleTerm).
However, can't type any character : nothing displayed, BREAK doesn't work.
Settings are: VT100, 9600baud, 8 bit, no parity, 1 stop bit.
Is there anything I should/can do on the server to make it accept input
via the LOM-A port ?
