internal PCI USR modem in SunOS 5.8 x86 (Solaris 8)

The system sees it /dev/cua/c (after adding an entry to
asy.conf along with ignore-hardware-nodes), but I get no response with
cu when I connect to it (with or without -b 8). When I tried to ~. from
cu, it hangs. The system is an IBM PC. I can't set the IRQ. It depends
on the PCI slot. I use the slot for IRQ 10, which doesn't conflict with
anything.

Has anyone seen this problem or had luck with other internal
modems?
