Solaris as ftp client - 421 Service not available

Dear managers,

I am stuck accessing ftp servers from Solaris. I have two Solaris 8
machines with identical firewall configurations. One server is able to
access a given ftp server. The other is not. I get the following.

bash-2.03# ftp 212.108.168.51
Connected to 212.108.168.51.
220 ip51.smartsoft.lynet.net FTP server (lukemftpd 1.1) ready.
Name (212.108.168.51:ahoesch): test
331 Password required for test.
Password:
230-
Welcome to Darwin!
230 User test logged in.
ftp> ls
200 PORT command successful.
^C
421 Service not available, remote server has closed connection
ftp>

I can login but "ls" gives no answer. When I press Control-C I get "421
Service not available". I tried this with different ftp servers. Same
result. Any ideas?
