detail: init problem

hi all,

iam using soalris 8 in v440. i want to reboot the system, when i type init 6
and enter, it will return to the prompt. the system will not be rebooted and
there is no messages; similarly i cant use init 0 and init 5 as well.
"reboot" command works fine, but i want to use "init"

please advice
