Flar archives over NFS
2007-12-25 6:41:00
This weekend I am planning to upgrade a V440 to Solaris 10 and reinstall all
software etc for Monday Morning.
This is a mission critical server and is being upgraded against my many
complaints, so please dont tell me whats wrong with this whole idea!
In short, i have never used flar files and I am planning to do the
following:
-boot to single user mode
# mount <ipaddress>:/flarstorage /nfsdir
# flarcreate -n filename.flar -S -x /nfsdir -c /nfsdir/filename.flar
Unfortunately due to the site I am having to use a Win32 NFS Server to store
this.
During a trial run on a V210 , the flar archive had became corrupted when I
attempted to install the archive back.
My questions are simple:
- Is this the logical way of doing this? Is there a better meathod for large
network transfer in this case?
- Can I confirm the flar archive is valid/stable/uncorrupted before i format
?
Thankyou for any help,
Mark C
