Strange PING behavior

I am stumped with strange PING behavior. I cannot ping(or reach
othweways) a certain Host.
This host, my r280 8 box can lookup in DNS (DNS resolves the IP and
resolves the host-name given the IP). I can reach the subnet on which
the hosts exists, (ping the host on the same subnet). But i cannot
reach this host. I checked everything I could think of, resolv, hosts
file, routing, all seems in order.
