DHCP to static address

I had to give static address to a solaris machine which was previously a DHCP
client.
I just deleted dhcp.eri0 and created new hostname.eri0 file with host name in
it.
"hosts" file has the new static address mapped to the host name.
and after re-boot machine got that static IP.
Now the problem starts .Telnet to that machine times out quite frequently
now.
things were fine before I changed it to static address.
Have I missed anything in the process of changing DHCP to static address ?
