login as root on 1.x

We have a farm of sparc systems running 1.x with proprietary software.
These systems are ypbound to
a 2.x machine for user maint only. They are also nfs cliented to one of
their own. We have made no o/s
changes to these systems in quite a long time. When I try to log in as
root, I get the following error:
ld.so: call to undefined procedure __C0095A2A from 0x643c
Connection closed by foreign host.
I can, however, log in using a yp user. This occurs on all of the systems
in this farm. We did have some
cable issues that caused network problems, but this should be a local
library call. I should add,that we
have an identical farm running in a different location which is not
experiencing these issues.
