Java problems running dhcpmgr

I keep getting the error:

.MetalLookAndFeel
|| at java.lang.Throwable.fillInStackTrace(Native Method)
|| at java.lang.Throwable.fillInStackTrace(Compiled Code)
|| at java.lang.Throwable.<init>(Compiled Code)
|| at java.lang.Error.<init>(Error.java:50)
|| ...
as well as some font not found messages.
I've been over the paths setup repeatedly, installed the latest "dhcp
server and admin patch" (#109077) and am about to just re-install java,
but hoped that someone might know what's wrong before I did that.
I'm not a java developer, but it appears that the class for
javax.swing.plaf.metal.MetalLookAndFeel is in /usr/java1.2/jre/lib/rt.jar
(I've even tried replacing that file with one from a different system).
Any ideas of what the problem might be?
