format command hanging..help please

We keep getting failled disks from two separate A5200 disk arrays at a very
high rate.
Recently after 5 were repalced, we got three failures almost immediately..
the metastat command used to hang on for about 2 minutes about the the fifth
of seven mirrors
that it was reporting on and then finished quickly.
the command takes less time to finish now, but still pauses for a second or so
on the fifth mirror.
now the format command just hangs, so I cannot access the disk geometry.
I have never seen this behaviour before and suspect that the fibre loop or
disk drives have
issues. The hardware is supported by a third party so i need a plausible
hypothesis
to present to them to get the hardware checked.
Could someone please provide me with any information
