Help! Resolver libraries playing havoc

First, consider me chastised. As was pointed out, I should have
included system information in my posting.
My system is a 3/280, OS 4.1, running NIS.
In spite of this omission, Mark D. Baushke had the appropriate
question when he said:
> Do you know that your nameserver is properly configured?
>
> Or that your /etc/resolv.conf points to a proper nameserver?
>
>Why not see what 'nslookup' (a standard DNS tool shipped with most
>systems that ship a -lresolv) says? Try: 'nslookup apollo'.
nslookup then informed me that my nameserver wasn't running
properly. Once that got taken care of, the program compiled with
both -lresolv and without (but it did return different answers).
Moral of the story: watch out for NIS whenever ANYTHING attempts
to use the network and check it thoroughly.
However, when I corrected my nameserver, it blew out what little
amount of sendmail I had configured. Oh, well.... maybe the .cf
file will be cleaner now. Still working on that one.
