NFS shares

I am sharing a Fs to a client. I have made the appropriate entries in
dfstab and shared out the resource. That all works fine. The problem here
is that the resource has root:other on the server and the client has all the
users in a special group (engineering). The only way for these users to
write to this mount is if I open it up completely. I am wondering if there
is a workaround. I figured I could:
1) Add the group (engineering) to the server and make the resource owned by
that group before sharing it out.
2) Add all users to the other group on the client as their secondary group
I would have preferred to make a netgroup but this client is not running
NIS. Are there any better ways to accomplish this? TIA
