Veritas Netbackup - initiating for the first time
2007-12-24 19:27:00
I know this is off topic but as many shud be using this, I thought I
will post it here.
I am a newbie in netbackup . We have got a new ATL P1000 connected to
Ultra 30 where I want to take back ups.(I am using veritas 3.2GA) I
have finalised a schedule also.
I made a class with 4 schedules - daily,weekly,monthly and half-yearly.
I have planned in such a way that weekly starts on fridays,
monthly startus on sundays and half-yearly starts on saturdays(all
early
morning)
Half yearly is full backup while all others are incremental.I have put
2
week retention for daily, 1 month for weekly, 6 months for monthly and
infinite for half-yearly.
My backup up data is 400GB.
When I make this class active, tonight will daily backup take full
dump
today and then incremental all other days? Similarly will weekly as
well as
monthly take full dump first time and then incremental?
If that is the case I need tapes for 400GB x 4. After two weeks, for
daily backup, first set gets deleted - thus releasing 400G. Similarly
for
weekly will release another 400G. In that case am I not wasting tapes
for weekly and daily where data to be backed up is very small, but
having tapes for 400GB allocated?
Is there a way out? Or is my understanding wrong? If I initiate a
half-yearly backup tonight first, and schedule daily incremental to
strat after that, will the daily also take full backup as it is started
for the first time or does it take incremental from half-yearly backup.
(both are in same class)
Thanks in advance
sajan
