Jim Taylor, Kent Perrier, Damon Cassell, Michael
Auria, Ryan Madison, Paul Wilkinson, David Evans,
Celeste Stokely, Michael Peppard, Warren Brenan,
Jonathan Loh, Joel Fisher, Michael Price and all the
others who responded to my question regarding how to
use a laptop as a terminal on a sun box. The summary
of the solution is:
Using eeprom set "output-device=ttya" and
"input-device=ttya". You need either a null modem
cable or a (HD9-HD15)parrallel cable with a
null modem adapter. Use hyperterminal; 8, n, 1 9600;
plug into slot A on Sun box. Remove the keyboard from
the Sun, while the machine is not running.
Then, connect the pc to the Sun via the serial cable.
You will talk to the Sun at the baudrate/wordlength
specified in your eeprom.
(eeprom | grep ttya)
You need to send a BREAK from the PC to the Sun, to
act as STOP-A. If the PC runs NT, you can't send a
BREAK from Hyperterminal.
Teraterm is free and will send a BREAK from NT.
YOu can grab Teraterm from:
http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA002416/teraterm.html
And the exact pinouts are at:
http://www.stokely.com/unix.serial.port.resources/A-B-Ycablepinout.html
Once again,
Thanks!!
