Veritas Volume Manager and File System upgrade

Hi Alls,

Has anyone upgraded from Volume Manager 2.6 to 3.1 and File System 3.2.11 to
3.3.3?

We currently have 2 internal disk drives with the OS. Two other internal
disk drives were used to mirror the original OS. Prior to upgrading VM &
FS, I encapsulated the OS by copying everyone onto tape->formatted the
original disks->recreated the partitions as UFS, and restored from tape
because the "vxunroot" didn't work. Neither did the typical unencapsulation
process (typically by moving the original vfstab file and updating the
system file). This was only half of the battle.

After the OS was unecapsulated, I removed VM 2.6 & FS 3.2.1.1. Then,
upgraded to VM 3.1 & FS 3.3.3. I first did a standard reboot. The system
hung during the boot displaying "Configuring the /devices directory". After
several attempts by Sun (and about 20+ hours), I had to restore the system
from tape. I tried this process two other times with the same results. Sun
claimed that it might be a defecting part on the system, but I could still
boot from the backup disk running the old VM & FS and all of my applications
work just fine.

I'm not sure if VM or FS would be reconfiguring any devices, but that's what
the boot message is displaying. I was a little surprised that neither
packages refer to each other or mentioned the unencapsulation process. Any
suggestions?
