SUMMARY: LDAP authentication for Solaris8

2007-12-24 19:25:00

My original post was

************************************
Sunmanagers,

I have been trying to locate resources/links which explain the procedure
for configuring a solaris8 client to get user authentication information
from an LDAP server.... (both server and client config steps).
Dont seem to be having much luck.
************************************

The general opinion is that it is NOT an "easy" exercise but it CAN be
achieved. I sort of suspected that.
Thanks to people who responded.

1) Napster.of.Puppets at Noopy.ORG sent me the following link which i found
useful:

http://www.mittelstadt.org/ldap/sun_ldap_setup.pdf

2) Adrian Blount sent me the same documentation as a pdf attachment.

Thanks to you guys and all others who responded.

Read this VERY carefully. I did and after a full day or so, had it
running.

It is such a hack that they had to write a whole book it it.

you can find it on amazon or fatbrain. I haven't implemented it, a
friend
got it working at a customer site, but it took quite while.

What do you want to authenticate? Telnet? FTP? SSH?

Try this on for size. It's a Sun PDF that explains how to setup both
your LDAP schema and a Solaris 8 LDAP client.

Got it sent to me by someone on sun managers a while ago. Didn't
find it on docs.sun.com or anything at the time.

Sunmanagers,

Dont seem to be having much luck.

Any pointers?

Will summarize.

Please do not post messages in HTML format to this list.

Did you look at the LDAP software that comes with Solaris 8? See the
"Bonus
Software" folder, where you will find the iPlanet Directory Server on CD

"iPlanet Advantage Software, Volume II." It is free.
